O primeiro top 5 aqui no blog, e claro que tinha que ser sobre livros! Cinco séries de livros são das minhas preferidas, e a ordem em que as vou apresentar é ordem por que as comecei a ler.

Although it's a top five , all of these series are some of my number one series. They will be in order that I discovered and started to read them.

1) Sevenwaters by Juliet Marillier


Começou por ser uma trilogia e acabou numa série de seis livros. Estes livros são sobre uma família e um local - Sevenwaters. A religião da época é Celta e estas histórias estão ligadas ao folklore Irlandês e Celta. Acontece antes e durante o início da ocupação Romana da Britania. De livro para livro, de geração em geração tomamos conhecimento de como as pessoas poderiam ter vivido na época, mas também como o mito, folklore, magia e religião as afectava. Não se enganam como o que digo, estes livros são de fantasia (com algum romance à mistura e actos de heroísmo) são repletos de magia e fadas (ou faes) mas o piscar de olhos à realidade e a acontecimentos históricos torna-os ainda melhores aos meus olhos.

It started with a trilogy but ended to be a series with 6 books. These books are about a family and a place - Sevenwaters. The main religion at the time was Celtic, and these stories are deeply connected with Irish folklore and Celtic. It happens before and during the Roman occupation of Britain (also known as Britannia). From book to book, generation through generation you have a sense of how people might have lived, but also how myth, folklore, magic and religion could affect people. Don't be mistaken by what I said, these are fantasy books (with romance and choices that will make aww) with magic and faes involved but that little glint of reality is what makes them even better to me.

2) Abhorsen by Garth Nix


Foi um dos livros de fantasia que mais marcou exactamente pela sua diferença. Abhorsen é uma figura que luta os necromantes. É uma série que lida muito com a morte e coisas mortas (que não são necessariamente zombies, mas mortos controlados por outros mortos mais fortes ou necromantes). A ferramenta do (ou da) Abhorsen são sete sinos cada um com a sua função e perigo. Confesso que não me recordo muito do guião da história (apenas de detalhes soltos, já a li há bastantes anos - tenho imensa vontade de reler especialmente porque o Clariel saiu à pouco tempo e o 5º livro deverá sair para o ano que vem). Além do mundo mágico e dos artefactos estranhos, para mim o mais fascinante sempre foram os sinos. Ah e o facto dos Abhorsen poderem viajar pelos sete portões que antecedem a morte com a ajuda dos seus sinos.

It's one of the fantasy book series that have strike me as more different, specially in the details. Abhorsen fights necromancers. Yes, this a series that deal with death and lot of death things. Abhorsen tools or weapons are seven bells, each one with a different function and danger. I confess that I don't recall the storyline very well (only scattered details. I've read them years ago, althought lately I want to re-read them specially after Clariel release and also the 5th book that will be released next year.). Besides the magical world and the curious artifacts, to me the most fascinating thing has always been the bells. Ah and also the fact that Abhorsen can travel through the seven gates prior death with the help of the bells.

3) The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien


Não é segredo que tenho uma paixão pela Terra Média e pelos seus habitantes. (Ao ponto de ter três edições diferentes dos livros e andar a namorar uma quarta! Ou The Complete History of Middle Earth - 3 volumes gigantes para nerds como eu adora este mundo!)

It's not a secret that I have a passion for Middle Earth and it's habitants. (to the point of having three diferent editions of the books and considering the fourth one! Or maybe The Complete History of Middle Earth - a 3 volume set of books for nerds like me whom loves this world!)

4) A saga das Pedras Mágicas by Sandra Carvalho


Se conhecem os três primeiros livros da serie Sevenwaters e gostam, provavelmente irão gostar destes. Sandra Carvalho é uma escritora portuguesa e esta série é simplesmente espectacular! (apesar de ainda me faltarem ler os dois últimos livros e Os Três Reinos, sei que não me vai desiludir).
Por vezes os livros acabam em suspense. É uma série intensa que te deixa agarrada ao livro. Tenho que os reler brevemente!

This is a fantasy series written by a portuguese writer, as far as I know it's not translated in other languages. 

5) A Song of Ice and Fire (known as Game of Thrones) George R. R. Martin


Toda a gente conhece ou já ouviu falar destes livros ou da série. Na língua original foram editados 5 livros de umas 1000 e poucas páginas. Cá em Portugal a Saída de Emergência dividiu os livros em 10 volumes. Ainda não os li todos, apesar de já saber imensos detalhes que vão acontecer nos livros que ainda não li, e estar actualizada com a série. É uma série muito bem escrita. E na verdade o autor já lançava os últimos dois livros!

Everybody and their mother knows Game of Thrones, either the books or the tv-series. In english there are 5 books, but in Portugal they were divided in 10 volumes (so the books wouldn't be 1000 pages long). I haven't read them all, but I know a lot of the details from the books I haven't read yet, and also I caught up with the series.
