Em Abril participei em três maratonas literárias. Nunca o tinha feito e quis experimentar. Não acho que tenha sido particularmente bem sucedida simplesmente porque não quis deixar tudo de lado e só ler.

A primeira chama-se Genreathon e foi de 10 a 17. Organizada por quatro booktubers. O objectivo era ler três livros de três géneros diferentes. [Li do livro 1 ao 5 e uma novela de Stephen King]

A segunda chama-se Authorathon e foi organizada pela booktuber Joana Sousa e Thoughts on Tomes. Decorreu de 18 a 24 de Abril. Haviam 6 desafios por onde escolher. Um deles era ler algo do nosso autor preferido e outro desafio era ler um autor novo para a pessoa. Eu continuei a ler o livro de novelas do Stephen King (Different Seasons) onde li a novel Apt Pupil. E comecei a ler Mystic River de Dennis Lehane.

A terceira era uma maratona literária de 24horas - Readathon e em Portugal decorria entre 13h do dia 23h até às 13h do dia 24h. Li mais do Mystic River, mas não acabei nenhum livro nessas 24 horas.

In April I participated in three reading marathons. I never had before and I wanted to try. I don't think I was particularly successful but I also didn't want or could just drop everything and just read.

The 1st one was Genreathon that went from 10th to 17th. Organized by four booktubers [ Under the Radar books, Squibbles Reads, Vienna Waits Books and Lauren and the books]
The goal was read three books in three different genres. [I read book 1 to 5, and a novella by Stephen King].

The 2nd one was Authorathon organized by booktuber Joana Sousa and Thoughts on Tomes.
It was from the 18th to the 24th. There were 6 challenges that you could choose from. I choose to read one of  my favourite authors and to start to read a new author to me. So I kept reading Stephen King novellas (book Different Seasons). I've read Apt Pupil. And I started Mystic River by Dennis Lehane.

The 3rd one was 24h Dewey's Readathon between the 23rd and 24th. I read more of Mystic River, but I didn't finished any book in those 24 hours.

1) Crooked House by Agatha Christie (Mystery)
Foi também o livro do mês do desafio, criado pela Joca do Little House of Books, Um ano com Agatha Christie (que têm o objectivo de ler um livro da autora por mês).
Adorei este! É completamente diferente de tudo o que já li da autora. A história é narrada por uma das personagens principais. A minha personagem preferida foi Aristide Leonides (a vítima). A história está muito bem escrita e agarrou-me de tal forma que só o consegui pousar quando acabei o livro. Quase que perdi uma noite de sono, e valeu a pena!!

it was also the book of the month of little house of books project - One year with Agatha Christie. (one Christie's book per month.)
I loved this one. It's completely different from everything that I've read (or the tv/movie adaptations that I've seen). This story is told by the narrator. My favourite character was Aristide Leonides (the victim). The plot is very well written. I wasn't able to put the book down and almost lost one night of sleep because of that. It was so worthy!!

Continuei a ler uma das minhas bandas desenhadas preferidas - Hellboy. Estes quatro volumes foram os meus preferidos. Mas estou cheia de vontade de ler o vol. 10, 11 e 12 [e depois ler a outra série que se chama Hellboy in Hell]

Then I was in for continuing reading one of my favourite comics Hellboy. These four volumes were my favourite so far. I'm looking forward to read vol.10, 11 and 12. [after that there is other series called Hellboy in Hell]

6) Different Seasons by Stephen King.
Este livro têm quatro novelas*. Eu estava particularmente curiosa com a primeira.
This book has 4 novellas*. I was looking forward to read the first one.

6.1) Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption [Hope Springs Eternal]
Especialmente para saber se era melhor que a adaptação cinematográfica. Para mim foram igualmente boas. A minha personagem preferida continua a ser Red (que no filme é interpretado pelo Morgan Freeman). Apesar de a história ser sobre Andy Dufresne, esperança que ele têm e representa, para mim, Red é aquele que cresce de sem esperança a esperançado.

Mainly to see if it was better than the amazing movie adaptation. For me it was equally good. My favourite character is still Red (in movie played by Morgan Freeman). Although the story is more about Andy  Dufresne, the hope that he always have and he represents, for me, Red is the one who grows, from hopelessness to hope.

6.2) Apt Pupil [Summer of Corruption] 
Esta história não era nada do que estava à espera. Esta novela é sobre um jovem rapaz, um aluno apto que está bastante obcecado com a Segunda Guerra Mundial e que descobre que no seu bairro vive um homem que foi membro das SS e um torturador num campo de concentração. Ele decidi visitar este homem idoso e de alguma maneira torna-se seu aluno. A relação entre as duas personagens é tóxico e co-dependente. E a certo ponto tu sabes que só há uma saída possível para esta história. (existe também uma adaptação cinematográfica que estou entusiasmada para ver - o Ian McKellen entra no filme!).

This story, OMG I wasn't expecting nothing like this. This novella is about a young boy, an Apt Pupil that is very obsessed about World War II and discovers that a nearby old man was an old SS member and torturer in Camp. He decides to visit the man and somehow become his pupil. The relation between both is toxic and co-dependent. And at the certain point you just know that there is only one possible end for the story. (there is a movie adaptation that I'm looking so forward to check - Ian McKellen is in it!).

6.3) The Body [Fall from Innocence]
Quais a probabilidades de três destas novelas neste livro terem sido adaptadas para cinema? Como foram escritas por Stephen King a probabilidade é muito grande. Provavelmente conhecem esta adaptação - Stand by me ou Conta comigo em português. Só quando acabei o livro é que percebi a alteração do título e confesso que deixei cair uma lágrima ou duas. Na verdade eu não queria ler esta novela. Achei que ia ser aborrecida. Quatro rapazes que vão para os bosques procurar o corpo de um rapaz da mesma idade deles que está desaparecido. É uma história sobre crescer, uma espécie de ritual de passagem entre rapaz e homem. Houve alturas que me perguntei mas porque é que estou a insistir, a história quase aborrecida. Até que o deixou de ser. Aprendi a gostar de duas das personagens principais e até tremi quando certas coisas lhes aconteceram. Algumas cenas foram tão visuais que me enojaram ou quase me fizeram sentir a dor das personagens (especialmente quando uma delas leva uma tareia). Tenho que rever o filme e ver se se comporta à altura da novela.

I found out that this one also had be adapted for cinema. You probably have seen it on the TV - Stand by me. Only after I finished reading it I understood the movie title, and oh boy I shed a few tears because of that. I didn't want to read this one. I thought it would be boring. Four boys going into the wild searching for the dead body of a little boy about there age that was missing. It's a story about growing up, ritual of passage between boy and man. There were many times that I wasn't sure why I was still reading it, because it was almost boring. But then it wasn't. And I learned to love two of the characters and shudder when things happened to them. There were a few scenes that were very visual to me that either disgust me or make me almost feel the pain of the character (specially when one of them is beat up). I do have to re-watch the movie adaptation, and see if it leaves up to the novella.

6.4) The Breathing Method [A Winter's Tale]
Esta novela é super estranha, mas no bom sentido. Têm duas histórias, mas se preferes histórias com finais fechados, talvez esta não seja para ti. O narrador é a personagem principal e conta-nos sobre um sítio onde os homens se juntam, uma espécie de club para gentleman's. Nesse club eles podem beber, têm uma livraria com volumes e livros que não existem em mais lado nenhum e às quintas-feiras os membros juntam-se perto da lareira e partilham histórias. Um dos dias especiais para estas histórias é a quinta-feira antes do Natal. É quando as histórias mais estranhas e chocantes (e até aterrorizadoras) são contadas. É aqui que entra a segunda história desta novela. Um doutor conta a história de uma paciente sua que estava tão determinada a dar à luz que mais nada interessava. Qualquer uma das histórias são misteriosas, estranhas e boas. Apesar de esta novela não ser a minha preferida. Adorava ler qualquer uma delas num livro bem maior.

This one is a bit messed up, but in a good sense. It has two stories in it, but if you closed endings well there isn't one for it. The narrator tells the story about a place where men can go, a sort of gentleman's club. There they can drink, they have a library with tomes and books that don't exist elsewhere and on Thursday's members gather together to tell stories. A special day for stories is the Thursday before Christmas. It's when the most weird and shocking stories are told. And that's the other story of this novella. A doctor tells the story of one of his patient that was so determined to give birth, no matter what. Either of the stories are eerie, and good. Although for me it wasn't my favourite. I would love to read any of those ideas told in a much bigger book.

7) Mystic River by Dennis Lehane
Se estão a adivinhar que este livro também foi adaptado para cinema, então estão certos! Aliás juntamente com o Shawshank Redemption é um dos meus filmes preferidos. Foi dirigido pelo Clint Eastwood, e os actores Kevin Bacon e Sean Penn são as personagens principais. É uma história misteriosa e tão bem escrita!! O filme é tão próximo do livro, que a única grande diferença (na minha opinião) é que no livro consegues entrar nas cabeças das personagens. Jimmy Markum (Sean Penn) é o pai da vítima de 19 anos. Jimmy é a minha personagem preferida. É uma personagem tão rica, para mim as melhores partes são os sentimentos que ele têm em relação à sua família - mulher e filhas. Sean Devine (Kevin Bacon) é um dos investigadores dos homicídios encarregue deste caso, e a sua vida está uma trampa. Estas duas personagens conhecem-se desde miúdos quando brincavam aos sábados à tarde, enquanto os pais iam para o bar beber. Uma terceira criança costumava juntar-se a eles - Dave Boyle (Tim Robbins), até o dia em que Dave entra num carro estranho, mas Sean e Jimmy não. Este evento muda a vida deles os três, e termina a amizade que tinham.

If you're guessing about this book also being adapted to a movie you're right! Actually along with Shawshank Redemption is one of my favourites. It was directed by Clint Eastwood, it has Kevin Bacon and Sean Penn in the lead roles. It has mystery and it's such well written story!! The movie is so close to the actual book, that the only difference between them (in my opinion) is that in the book you can enter in the characters heads. Jimmy Markum (played by Sean Penn), the father of nineteen year old victim is my favourite character. It's such a rich one, but the best part is the love feelings he has for his family - wife and daughters. Sean Devine (played by Kevin Bacon) is a homicide investigator and his life is a mess. Both knew each other from when they were kids and played on Saturdays afternoons, when their fathers gather up for a few drinks. A third kid used to join them - Dave Boyle (played by Tim Robbins), until the day he goes up in a strange car, but Sean and Jimmy don't. This event change their lives, and ended their friendship.
