Apesar de ter feito um apanhado do que li em vídeo, não queria deixar de partilhar algumas opiniões sobre o que li duma forma mais completa e extensa.
Em Agosto li 9 livros, dos quais dois foram livros áudio, uma novela gráfica, dois livros de não ficção, dois policiais, dois em português e um romance histórico.

Although I did my first face to camera video about the books I've read in August (portuguese only, sorry) I didn't want to not share a more complete opinions about some of the boons I've read.
I've read 9 books in total, two of them were audiobooks, one graphic novel, two non-fiction, two crime books, two in portuguese and one historic romance.

1) Body Double (Rizzoli & Isles #4) by Tess Gerritsen

Se os dois primeiros livros se focam mais na personagem da detective Rizzoli, o 3º e o 4º focam-se na Drª Maura Isles - patologista. Drª Isles foi adoptada quando era bebé e não sabe (nem nunca se preocupou) em procurar os seus pais biológicos. Até ao dia em que regressa a casa e perto da sua porta, dentro de uma viatura, está o corpo de uma mulher igual a ela. Mais tarde descobre que essa mulher era de facto sua irmã gémea. No final do livro ficam algumas pontas soltas que não sei se serão resolvidas nos próximos volumes.

The first two books focused on Detective Rizzoli, the third and fourth book focus on the patologist Dr Maura Isles. Dr Isles was adopted when she was a child, she doesn't know who her biological parents and she never cared. Until one day, returning home from her holidays, she founds a death woman in a car by her door - that looks just like her! Later she finds out that that woman was in fact her twin sister. The end of the book lives some loose ends that I'm not sure if it will be pick up in the next books.

2) The Lord of the Rings (The Lord of the Rings #1-3) by J.R.R. Tolkien

Adoro estar a desenhar e ouvir esta trilogia. A versão audio dá outra significado aos poemas e músicas que existem ao longo do livro. Este é daqueles livros que quanto mais leio, mais gosto dele.

I love draw while I'm listen to this trilogy. The audio version gives a new meaning to the poems and musics that are present in the books. The more I read this book, more I like it.


3) The Art of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien by Wayne G. Hammond, Christina Scull, J.R.R. Tolkien (Illustrator)

Um dos livros mais bonitos na minha estante. Sou fã assumida da obra do autor, mas fiquei ainda mais fã quando descobri que todos os mapas e ilustrações das primeiras edições foram feitos pelo autor. (isto para não falar no design das capas dos livros).
É muito interessante ver como Tolkien chegou às ilustrações finais, e como ele teve que mudar algumas das ilustrações devido ao método de reprodução/impressão da época.

One of the prettiest books in my shelves. I'm a Tolkien fan, but I loved his work even more when I found out that the maps and original illustrations from the first editions were made by the author (not to mention the cover design).
It's very interesting to see Tolkien's creative process, and how he had to change some of the illustrations so that they would be easily printed at the time.

4) The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides

Tinha uma ideia geral da história ainda antes de ler o livro. Mas achei que a versão literária fosse um pouco mais profunda do que a linha geral do filme. Continuo com vontade de ver o filme, mas não fiquei muito surpreendida pelo livro.

I already knew the base story of the book. But I thought that maybe the book would be a little deeper than that. I still want to see the movie, but I wasn't surprised by the book.


5) The Drawing of the Three (The Dark Tower #2) by Stephen King

Houve um momento na leitura deste livro que tive que parar - depois de ler umas cenas numa praia com uns crustáceos gigantes com tenazes capazes de cortar carne humana e fazem uns sons inquisitivos e estranhíssimos. Quando voltei a pegar no livro (com uma segunda dose de coragem) não o voltei a largar até terminar. Estou a adorar esta colecção e a aventura apenas agora começou!

In one moment of this books I had to stop - after reading some scenes with these huge crustaceans that could cut human flesh and made some weird and inquisitive sounds. When I grab the book again (with a second dose of courage) I didn't put it down until I was finished. I'm loving these series and the adventure is only beginning.



6) Show your Work! by Austin Kleon

Estou a pensar em fazer uma publicação mais extensa sobre este livro e o "Steal like an Artist" do mesmo autor. São dois excelentes livros para qualquer criativo e pessoas que criam conteúdos (sejam artistas, escritores, bloggers... etc).

I'm thinking in dedicating a post only to this book and the "Steal like an Artist" by the same author. They are great books for any creative and content creators (artists, writers, bloggers, etc).



7) A Minha Mãe acha que fui trocada à nascença de Sara-a-dias

ADORO o humor da Sara-a-dias (e as ilustrações dela também). É só o que tenho a dizer sobre este livro.

I love this Portuguese illustrator, from her artwork down to her humor That's all I have to say.

8) Mr Mercedes (Bill Hodges Trilogy #1) by Stephen King

Stephen King a escrever policiais? Sim é possível. Bill Hodges reformou-se à seis meses da Polícia. A sua vida mudou de acção para estar sentado em frente à televisão. Até ao dia em recebe uma carta do auto-intitulado Mr. Mercedes. Mr Mercedes foi o autor dum crime terrível - assassinou, com um Mercedes roubado, várias pessoas que estavam na fila para uma feira de desemprego (incluindo uma mãe e o seu bebé). Na altura o objectivo de Mr Mercedes é que Bill dê os últimos passos para se suicidar. O livro oferece-nos duas perspectivas alternadas - a de Bill Hodges e a de Mr Mercedes. Apesar de no vídeo ter dito que este não é um livro de horror, que tenho que dar um passo atrás e dizer que é outro tipo de horror. A história deste livro podia ser verdade, à uma frase dita por uma personagem que vai perseguir Bill Hodges - "eles andam entre nós". E é verdade os verdadeiros psicopatas andam entre nós... e quantos Bill Hodges ou outros heróis improváveis é que andam por aí?

Can Stephen King write detective books? Sure! Bill Hodges is a police retired for the past six months. His live changed from action to spend the day in front of the Tv. Until the day he receives a letter from Mr Mercedes. Mr Mercedes was a murdered - who killed (with a stolen Mercedes) several people that were in line for a Job Fair ( two of those victims was a mother and a baby). Mr Mercedes goal is to make Bill take the final steps to commit suicide. The book give us two main perspectives - Bill Hodges and Mr Mercedes. In the video (portuguese only) I mention that this is not a horror book, but really this is just other type of horror - and a very real one. The story of this book could be true. One character says a phrase that will chase Bill - "they are among us". And I believe it's true, the real psychopaths are among us... and how many Bill Hodges and other unlikely heroes are around?



9) O Miniaturista de Jessie Burton

Não vou dizer mais mal deste livro. Foi uma leitura rápida, a história é interessante e cheia de mistérios. O meu problema com o livro é que eu criei expectativas à volta de ser um romance histórico. Eu gosto de História, mas quando falo de história gosto que me falem de vários contextos sócio-económicos e de ver/ler descrições sobre os espaços em que as coisas sucederam. O problema não foi do livro, mas meu.

I won't be saying bad things about this book. It was a quick read, a very nice and interesting story, full of mysteries. My problem with the book was that I created expectations about it being a historical romance. I like history, but when I read about it I want social-economic context and to have a notion of the places and how people there lived. Clearly that wasn't a problem with the book, just my expectations.
